Well, we never thought it would arrive but Summer’s finally here in the U.K., and with it comes a natural shift in how we change our chosen fragrances – spiced orange is nice but doesn’t give off the Summer vibe in the same way as fresh mango does! In the same way we swap Winter boots for Summer sandals, we also switch our fragrance choices when the seasons change.
So what prompts this change? Is it the smell of flowers on the breeze or the lure of a trip to the beach? Or is it the longer evenings that make us feel like we need to come out of hibernation and surround ourselves with fresh, uplifting aromas?
Whatever it is, the change in seasons is reflected in fragrance choices across both the domestic and commercial sectors.
Hygiene is also an area that sees a shift in the Summer – without going into the finer details, we all want to keep fresh when it’s hot! Whether this is reflected in people taking increased showers, wearing more deodorant and body spray, or simply wearing looser clothing, we still see a shift in the scents chosen for shower gels, perfumes and even washing powder. No matter the target market, any product that gives off a scent can (and will be) adapted for the change in seasons.
With both hygiene and personal fragrance choices adapting to embrace the sun, the next area is the environment around us – natural scents of cut grass, salty brine and flowers on the wind all scream Summer, but what about when you’re stuck in the office or on the plane going to your holiday destination.
