1960 Valdivia Earthquake – the world’s largest earthquake occurred on 22nd May, 1960 near Valdivia, in southern Chile. It had a magnitude of 9.5 as measured by the United States Geological Survey. It is the largest known Earthquake to have an instrumentally documented magnitude.
